Mirasol Pampolino is a native of the Philippines. She obtained her BSc in Agriculture and MSc in Soil Science from the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) and her PhD in Agricultural Chemistry (Soil Science) from Hokkaido University, Japan.

Mira joined IPNI SEAP as Agronomist in August 2008 after working at IRRI for 15 years and as post-doctoral fellow for one year at the Honam Agricultural Research Institute in South Korea. At IRRI, she served in different capacities as a research staff doing studies related to soil science and plant nutrition. She was largely involved in “simplifying” the site-specific nutrient management (SSNM) approach for rice and its promotion in Asia through the Irrigated Rice Research Consortium (IRRC). Mira is co-developer of the initial version of “Nutrient Manager for Rice” software. While at IRRI, she also conducted studies on the long-term carbon and nitrogen dynamics and balances in continuous rice and rice-maize systems.

Upon joining IPNI SEAP in 2008, Mira has led the development of Nutrient Expert®, a decision support tool that helps crop advisors to rapidly develop fertilizer recommendations for specific fields or growing environments. Nutrient Expert for hybrid maize was first developed for Southeast Asia and later adapted to other IPNI regions in Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. Nutrient Expert for wheat has also been developed for South Asia and China.
