Christopher Richard Donough


Christopher Donough is a citizen of Malaysia, born and raised in Kuching in the East Malaysian state of Sarawak. He has a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Science from Universiti Pertanian Malaysia in 1984. Since graduating, he has worked with plantation companies in Malaysia, managing research programs as well as assuming advisory and training duties.

He started with Pamol Plantations of the Unilever Plantations group where he served 12 years during which he was involved in research into oil palm agronomy and genetic improvement, and undertook advisory duties including for Unilever’s plantation in Thailand for several years. In 1996, Chris joined IJM Plantations, a smaller Sabah-based group, to establish a new research centre & oil palm planting materials development program. Having successfully done so, Chris then joined the IOI, a leading Malaysian plantation group, as Research Controller in 2004. After 18 months in IOI, Chris decided to stop full-time employment to become a consulting agronomist and have more free time for family & other interests.

From 2006, Chris has been working for IPNI SE Asia Program in the oil palm projects in Indonesia. At the same time, he is also retained as a consultant for IJM Plantations for their oil palm breeding & seed production programs.

Throughout his career, Chris has been active in training & development projects, particularly with the Incorporated Society of Planters, doing what he enjoys i.e. passing on knowledge and helping others especially the younger generation.
