The following software and tools are available from the IPNI Southeast Asia Program or its partners.

Nutrient Expert for Hybrid Maize
The Nutrient Expert for Hybrid Maize is a new, computer-based decision support tool developed to assist local experts to quickly formulate fertilizer guidelines for tropical hybrid maize based on the principles of site-specific nutrient management (SSNM). This software allows scientists and extension experts to jointly develop novel nutrient management strategies for evaluation.

Nutrient Decision Support System (NuDSS) Software for Irrigated Rice
The Nutrient Decision Support System (NuDSS) for irrigated rice is part of an initiative by the Irrigated Rice Research Consortium to provide decision support on site-specific nutrient management (SSNM) in the irrigated lowlands. It is a software program used to estimate the nutrient requirements for realistic target yields in irrigated rice, select the adequate and least costly combination of quality fertilizer sources to match the nutrient requirement, decide on fertilizer split applications, and estimate the profit gained from improved nutrient and crop management programs. The content of the software is consistent with earlier publications on SSNM, including a Handbook, a Practical Guide, and the Rice Knowledgebank of IRRI.

Fertilizer Chooser Software
Fertilizer Chooser is the final step in preparing a fertilizer program. Fertilizer Chooser assumes that a fertilizer recommendation for balanced plant nutrition is available and helps the user to
  • Translate a nutrient recommendation into the correct amounts of different fertilizers needed to make up the right amount of nutrients
  • Select a combination of meaningful fertilizer sources
  • Select the least costly combination of fertilizer nutrient sources based on quoted prices for fertilizer products and the cost of application, and
  • Evaluate the cost of different fertilization programs.

Nutrient Manager for Rice
Nutrient Manager for Rice is a new, user-friendly computer-based decision support tool enabling extension agents to quickly formulate fertilizer guidelines for specific fields or rice-growing areas. This tool only requires information that can be easily provided by a farmer or a local expert. After answering a few key questions, a farmer can get a fertilizer guideline tailored to his rice variety and growing conditions. The guidelines generated by this tool are consistent with the scientific principles of Site-Specific Nutrient Management (SSNM) for rice developed by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), and will help a farmer increase his yield and profit by applying the right amount of fertilizer at the right time.
