Christian Witt

Christian Witt is a native of Germany. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees at the University of Hamburg, then earned his Ph.D. in 1997 at the Justus-von-Liebig University in Germany based on research conducted at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Philippines, in 1993-1996. In 1998, he rejoined IRRI as Project Scientist, before he became Affiliate Scientist in 2000 to coordinate a multi-national project on Site-Specific Nutrient Management in Irrigated Rice. In early 2004, Dr. Witt joined IPNI and IPI as the Director of their joint Southeast Asia Program. His key interests include natural resource management and decision support systems.

Dr. Witt is co-developer of the site-specific nutrient management approach in irrigated rice and maize, and developer of training and promotional material, including IRRI’s Nutrient Decision Support System (NuDSS) software for irrigated rice, and the standardized leaf color chart for nitrogen management.

Mirasol Pampolino

Dr. Mirasol Pampolino joined us on August 15, 2008 as Agronomist. Mira holds a PhD in Agricultural Chemistry (major in Soil Science) of the Graduate School of Agriculture, Hokkaido University, Japan, an MSc in Soil Science from the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), and a BSc of Science in Agriculture also from UPLB.

Mira started her career as Research Assistant with UPLB before joining the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in Los Baños in 1992. After completing her PhD in Japan, she rejoined IRRI in 2002 to work on site-specific nutrient management in the Irrigated Rice Research Consortium. In 2007, Mira became a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the Honam Agricultural Research Institute, in Iksan, Korea, before returning to IRRI in 2008 where she developed the Nutrient Manager for Irrigated Rice, a new interactive computer based decision support tool for agricultural technicians and extension staff.

Mira will use her experience in rice to develop similar tools for maize.

Julie Mae Pasuquin

Julie Mae Pasuquin is a native of the Philippines. She completed her Bachelor's degree in Agriculture at Xavier University, Philippines, in 1992 and Master of Agriculture degree major in Agronomy at the University of the Philippines in Los Baños, in 1998.

Julie Mae joined SEAP in 2004 after working with the Philippine-based International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) for seven years. At IRRI, she worked with the Systems Research Network for Ecoregional Land Use Planning in Tropical Asia (SysNet) Project (1997-2000) and the Reaching Toward Optimum Productivity (RTOP) Project (2001-2004) where her involvement included site-specific nutrient management, crop simulation and modeling, geographic information systems, and statistical analysis.

As Agronomist in SEAP, she is working on site-specific nutrient management of major crops at key SEAP sites, including developing concepts for their larger scale introduction. She is also tasked to further develop and maintain the SEAP agronomic databases.

Sandra Leng

Sandra holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of South Australia, and a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology from the University of Melbourne, Australia.

Ms. Leng joined us on July 15, 2008 as Operations Manager. She had managing experience in the industry before joining the WorldFish Center in Penang, Malaysia, in 2002 where she last held the position as Manager for 'Funding Opportunities & Publishing'. At WorldFish, she further developed the publications portfolio to better reach out to the various stakeholders of the institute.

Sandra is now in charge of our administration, accounting, and publications in the IPNI Southeast Asia Program.

Sunendar Kartaatmadja

Dr. Sunendar Kartaatmadja received his B.Sc. degree at the University of Padjadjaran, Bandung, Indonesia (1974) and his M.S. degree at the University of the Philippines, Los Banos (1979). In 1989, he completed his Ph.D.in Plant Pathology at the University of Missouri-Columbia, USA. Dr. Sunendar has undergone various training in the area of Proposal Development (IRRI-University of Missouri, 1997), Scientific Exchange Program (Rural Development Agency, Suweon, S. Korea and JIRCAS, Tsukuba, Japan, 1998) and Training in Monitoring and Evaluating Research Programs in Developing Countries (University of Maryland, USA, 2000).

From 1975 to 2002, Dr. Sunendar was employed by the Indonesian Agency for Agricultural Research and Development (IAARD), starting out his career as a Researcher in the Plant Pathology Division with the Sukamandi Research Institute for Food Crops. From 1994 to 2000, he was Researcher and Head of the Research Planning and Coordination Division of the Central Research Institute for Food Crops (CRIFC) in Bogor. In 2000, he was appointed as Director of the Assessment Institute of Agricultural Technology in Central Java (BPTP Jawa Tengah), which he led until December 2002.

Dr. Sunendar joined the Southeast Asia Program (SEAP) of PPI/PPIC and IPI as a consultant for projects in Indonesia in 2003. He supports and facilitates SEAP activities including the project on site-specific nutrient management in maize.

Christopher Richard Donough

Christopher Donough has received his B.Sc. in Agriculture from Universiti Pertanian Malaysia in 1984. His academic awards include a Gold Medal (Undergraduate Project) awarded by the National Scientific Research & Development Council and an award for Best Student (Plant Protection) by the Malaysian Plant Protection Society both in 1984.

He has more than 20 years of experience in oil palm breeding and selection, tissue culture, seed production, agronomy, and plant protection. From 1984-1996, he was with Pamol Plantations Sdn Bhd, which is part of the Unilever Plantations Group, where he was Head of Oil Palm Breeding (1992-1996). He then joined the IJM Plantations Group (1996-2004), where he was Head of Research & Development before he became Research Controller with IOI Group (Plantations Division). In 2005, Christopher joined the IPNI Southeast Asia Program as a Consultant Agronomist in a new project on Best Management Practice for Maximum Economic Yield in Oil Palm.

Christopher's professional memberships include the Incorporated Society of Planters (ISP), the International Society for Oil Palm Breeders (ISOPB, life member), the Malaysian Plant Protection Society (MAPPS), the Malaysian Soil Science Society (MSSS, life member), the Genetics Society of Malaysia, and the Malaysian Oil Scientist & Technologists Association (MOSTA). Christopher has been on numerous committee memberships over the years and was organizing chairman and committee member of ten seminars, trainings, and workshops with ISP. He has published more than 10 articles and presented numerous papers at major national and international conferences.
